1st person gets 3 strips

2nd person get 3 strips

4th person gets 3 strips

5th person get 3 strips

 

3 x 5 = 15

 

 

If we divide the 18 strips into even groups of 4,

 

1st = 4 strips

2nd = 4 strips

3rd = 4 strips

4th = 4 strips

5th = 4 strips

 

4 x 5 = 20

 

 

Since 20 is greater than 18, each person gets 3 strips with only 3 remaining.
