This is a problem that requires some thinking, and there are many correct answers. There are only 9 one digit numbers (1, 2, ... 9) to select from, and you want a result that is between 6000 and 6200. You could pick a number like 6100 for your 4 digit number, and then try dividing by some of the one digit numbers - pick the number 2 for example:

 

Since 6100/2= 3050, then 3050 x 2 = 6100 and so one valid answer would be 3050 for your 4 digit number, and 2 for your 1 digit number.

 

That would be one valid answer. Some other valid answers are:

 

1 and 6001 (1 x 6001= 6001), so 1 and any number from 6001 to 6199 would work.

 

2 and 3001 (2 x 3001= 6002), so 2 and any number from 3001 to 3099 would work.

 

There are other answers with 3, 4, 5, and 6 for your single digit number. See if you can find some of them.

 

However, there are no valid answers with 7, 8, or 9 because 7x1000= 7000, which is greater than 6200.
