asked 01/20/17Large trees and shading.
Your next door neighbor, Rodgers, has some fairly large trees and you want to make sure that you put the pool away from the trees so that they don't shade the pool. One tree is 15m high and the angle between the ground and end of the shadow is 22○. How far away from the tree must you put the pool?

Hello Mark.
I think the question is saying that the angle from the end of the shadow to the top of the tree is 22°.
If we define d = length of shadow,
tan(22°) = 15m/d.
d = 15 m / tan(22°) = 37m.
