It doesn't matter how much the rental car and meals were, just as long as you know the sum of the two. Let x = sum of rental car and meals.
If the hotel is 50% more than the other two, you take the original amount and you add 50% of it to the amount. Therefore, the hotel cost x + .5x or 1.5x.
The grand total is x + 1.5x or 2.5x.
2.5x = $855
x = 342.
The hotel would cost 1.5(342) or $513.
