Susan is putting a border around her new flooring. She knows that the length is 6 feet longer than the width. The perimeter is 72 feet. Write an equation the represent the perimeter.

Qurie, if we call the width w, then the length is w + 6.

 

How do we find perimeter? 2w + 2l, right? But, our l = w + 6, soooo...

 

2w + 2(w + 6) = 72

2w + 2w + 12 = 72

4w + 12 = 72

 

Perhaps your teacher only wants the first equation. Hope this helps!
