A geometric sequence is one where you multiply each term by the same non-zero number to get the next successive term. This number is called the common ratio.

example: 3, 12, 48, 192, 768,...   the common ratio is 4

              81, 27, 9, 3, 1, 1/3, 1/9,...  the common ratio is 1/3

Look at your terms.  Divide a term by the one preceding it. Doing this process a few times, if you always get the same answer, then the sequence of numbers is geometric.

 

The answer you were getting when dividing is the Multiplier for the sequence.
