length: 1 1/3 feet

width: 1 foot

height: 2 1/3 feet 

the lengths of the sides of a small cube are 1/3 foot each.

 

part a: how many small cubes can be packed in the recta prism?

part b: find the volume of the rectangular prism in terms of the small cube and a unit cube.

Volume of the prism = length (16 inches) x width (12 inches) x height (28 inches).

Volume of the small cube same thing: 4 inches x 4 inches x 4 inches.

 

To find out how many small cubes fit in the prism , divide the volume of the prism by the volume of the small cube.

 

As for the unit cube...my guess is since a unit cube has all sides the same length which is one unit we can take in this case one unit to be 1 inch. So volume is again 1x1x1=1 inch squared. So same method as above for finding out how many unit cubes can fit into the prism. Volume of the prism divided by volume of one cube.
