This is my daughters 4th grade math home work. My brain is long past this can you help? Mrs. Garcia watches 16 students cycle home after school. She counts 38 wheels. Some of the students are on bicycles, and the rest are on tricycles. How many students are on bicycles

Frank,
It is assumed that a bicycle carries 1 student and a tricycle 1 student. Of all of the possible answers that you provided, only one adds up to 16 students (10 b, 6t).

But the fact that b + t = 16 narrows down the list to one possibility.

Chris,
You are correct. I did miss that point that this problem was given to a grade 4 student. Obviously, algebra is not an option. Trial and error is the way to go.
