To convert -1/9 as a decimal, we use long division.  Divide 1 by 9.  Then insert the negative sign after division.
 
 
     0 . 1 1 1 1
   ____________
9 | 1 . 0                       add a zero each time you perform the division process.
          9
     ________
          1 0
             9
           ____
              1 0
                 9
               ____
                 1 0
                    9
                   ____
                    1 0
 
 
By now, you should see a pattern in the quotient.  The digits after the decimal point repeat.
 
                    
-1/9 = -0.1111
 
 
The decimal has repeating digits.
