Hi Rosie,
Putting a decimal number into standard form means to express the number as a single digit whole number times 10 raised to a power. This is also know as writing a number in Scientific Notation.
Putting our number 14.73 into decimal form (scientific notation) will mean we have to move the decimal point 1 place to the left and then express that number as a power ten raised to the 1st power:
14.73 (normal form) = 1.473 x 101 (standard form)
However many places we move the decimal point to the left is also the positive number exponent that will be our power of 10.
