Let P = money saved by Paul

Let C = money saved by Cynthia

 

eqn 1)  K = 2P              since Kenny saves twice as much as Paul

eqn 2)  P = 3C              since Paul saves three times as much as Cynthia

eqn 3)  K = C + 1050    since Kenny saves $1050 more than Cynthia

 

Substituting 2P for K in eqn 3 we have

2P = C + 1050

 

Substituting 3C in place of P we have

2(3C) = C + 1050

6C = C + 1050

5C = 1050

C = $210

 

Cynthia saved $210

Kenny saved 210 + 1050 = $1260

Paul saved 3C = $630

 

Total saved = 210 + 1260 + 630 = $2100
