Candace has be an absolute professional and a sincere friend to our family. My wife loved Candace's teaching style and her gentle approach to making essential points stick... We have to relocate due to a new job but will miss Candace's lessons and company. Wishing her the very best and a "sincere thanks" for all that she has done for our family.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I worked extensively while living in Turkey with both children and adults in improving their grammatical and conversational skills in American English. At present, I am working with a young Japanese woman who is now married to an American and living in Summerville. All of my students have studied English, but want to be able to speak it better and be more comfortable using it.
I have an AB degree in French Education from Indiana University, and a Master's Degree in Secondary Education from the same institution. I have 15 years of classroom experience as a French teacher. In addition, I also have worked for a foreign language publishing company, and have conducted workshops with language teachers to help them use their materials more effectively.
I have been involved in community theater throughout my entire life, so public speaking, poise and presentation are second nature to me. For several years I taught diction and stage-presence at a summer theater camp in South Bend, Indiana. While living in Turkey, I was sought out by parents as English tutors for their children as well as by university professors who knew English but wanted to be able to speak well. I have always been told that I was easily understood whenever I spoke. I can help students to understand the importance of clear, concise pronunciation, of eye contact, of "reading one's audience," and help them to improve in these areas.
