Bio

I help middle school, high school, and college students build genuine mathematical fluency.

My sessions are calm and curiosity-driven. I emphasize conceptual understanding over memorization, because students remember and can flexibly apply what they actually understand. I've tutored dozens of students, and I work equally well with advanced learners pushing ahead and with students for whom the word "math" alone sparks anxiety.

I've tutored dozens of students, and I work equally well with advanced learners pushing ahead and with students for whom the word "math" alone sparks anxiety.

I graduated Summa Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa from Middlebury College as a math major, where I won the department's award for best senior thesis. I then taught Pre-Algebra, Algebra, Precalculus, and AP Calculus AB full-time for two years while earning an MS in Education from the University of Pennsylvania. After a research fellowship in mathematical AI safety through a Stanford program, an MS in Machine Learning from Duke, and two years performing AI security audits at a startup, I returned to the work that brings me the most joy — focused one-on-one instruction that helps students get unstuck and move forward with confidence.

Approved Subjects

ACT Math

ACT Math

I love helping students earn the highest ACT math scores. Prepping for this test is a great chance to revisit, remaster, and synthesize foundational math topics from prior coursework. My approach: use plenty of high-quality problems to probe for concepts students haven't yet mastered, then fill in those gaps until there are none. Contact me today to get started!
Algebra 1

Algebra 1

I love tutoring Algebra 1, a foundational course where students master concepts they'll draw on for years to come. As a full-time classroom teacher, I taught a complete year-long Algebra 1 course, so I know exactly what's ahead and can teach with that bigger picture in mind. Algebra 1 also makes up a large portion of the SAT math section, so I like to weave in SAT-style questions along the way to help students prepare well ahead of time.
Algebra 2

Algebra 2

I love tutoring Algebra 2, a foundational course where students master concepts they'll draw on for years to come. Algebra makes up a large portion of the SAT math section, so I like to weave in SAT-style questions along the way to help students prepare well ahead of time.
Calculus

Calculus

Calculus is my sweet spot when it comes to tutoring. As a full-time classroom teacher, I taught AP Calculus AB for two years. As a math major, I went deep into the subject — Calculus II, Multivariable Calculus, Real Analysis, Complex Analysis, and Functional Analysis. I find it deeply rewarding to help students build the conceptual understanding that leads to high scores on the AP Calculus AB or BC exam, or success in college-level Calculus.
Geometry

Geometry

Geometry is a uniquely beautiful high school math subject. For the first time, students are introduced to the concept of mathematical proof, a deductive argument that shows beyond the shadow of a doubt why a given statement is true. Geometry helps us learn to think like mathematicians and use math to reason and convince other people that our ideas are correct. During the summer after my junior year of college, I taught a Geometry course to students in Virginia. I have a special love for teaching Geometry, and I would love to help you appreciate the subject as much as I do.
Precalculus

Precalculus

The introductory precalculus course is a tour of many delightful destinations along the mathematical landscape. You become acquainted with, among other topics, trigonometry, logarithms and Euler's function, conic sections, and sequences and series. My teaching style focuses on helping students understand the "why" behind the formulas and problem-solving techniques they are shown. Where do the properties of logarithms come from? Why are they true? What even is a logarithm? A student that I tutored in precalculus found it very helpful to get beyond memorizing all the new symbols and properties in precalculus and figure out what they actually mean, where they come from, and why they are extremely helpful once we get them under our belts. In my career as a math educator, I hope to help hundreds of students make these same connections. I invite you to be one of those students.

Algebra 1

Jack did a great job with my daughter with online tutoring! He was very patient and works well with her. It was great that he has a first time free half hour meet and greet to see if they are compatible. I was very impressed so far with Jacks teaching style!
