Grammar,

Grammar

I have a BA.MA. and EdS From the University of South Carolina with a major and secondary education in the teaching subjects of both English and Latin. I am certified in both English and Latin and have taught a combination of both subjects for 30 years. I am now retired and enjoy tutoring students who are struggling to learn English grammar. I try to make learning of grammar easier by giving examples that students use use in their everyday speech to illustrate the grammar rules . For example, in teaching active and passive voice, I have them recall a football game in which a player is kicking the football and active voice and the ball is kicked by the football player in the passive voice. This example, as well as others gives students a picture they can use to remember a grammar principle that otherwise might be a challenge to understand.
Latin

Latin

After 30 years of teaching all levels of Latin in grades 6-12 in public and private classrooms, I began to tutor online. I enjoy working with students who need help as they learn Latin in the classroom or take online courses outside the classroom and need assistance to move forward in their work. The whiteboard, document upload, and screen share on Wyzant's online platform, give me all the tools necessary to explain and reinforce concepts with students. My goal is to make learning easier for students to do better on test grades and gain confidence in their knowledge in order to do well in a class.

Vocabulary

Vocabulary

Teaching vocabulary was always a part of my lesson plans as a certified teacher of English for 30 years in both public and private classrooms. It was part of the curriculum to teach lists from vocabulary texts and literature selections. I also taught words each day from previous PSAT and SAT exams. Teaching prefix suffix and root meanings was a part of my instruction to make learning new words easier.

Excellent, Excellent Tutor

That wasn't a typo, she is such a wonderful tutor. She recommends helpful websites and give homework which she expects completed by the next session. My daughter is now a confident Latin student.

Very effective

Reviewed test materials with my daughter and she’s requesting another tutor session. Very convenient times and the remote feature makes it easy. Will use again.

Excellent tutor!

My child’s middle school Latin grade went from a D+ to a B over the course of a semester working with Elizabeth. My child does not like to accept help, and he never felt judged or shamed by Elizabeth. We cannot say enough good things about her.

Elizabeth took time and effort to explain the importance of studying Latin and use of Wyzant's online tools

Excellent first lesson. Kids are inspired and looking forward to next class. As parents, we will support the kids to stay on top of assigned homework.

Great Latin/Grammer Tutor

Elizabeth helped my 4th grader with her Latin and grammar. Accomplished so much more than if I had helped her without any fights and after it was over my daughter said she was fun to work with and actually enjoyed the lesson.

A dedicated pro

My son was taking Latin as a freshman and was beginning to struggle in his second semester. He was pulling a C and growing increasingly confused. Elizabeth got him back on track quickly. She clarified what had been perplexing and strengthened his overall knowledge of first year Latin. He pulled a B the second semester of his freshman year. He’s now a sophomore and, thanks to Elizabeth’s foundation, he’s doing well in Latin all on his own. I also wanted to share this. When my son was struggling with Latin, before working with Elizabeth, he told me he was only going to do the mandatory two years. No more. This meant that he would be done with Latin at the end of his sophomore year. Well, just last week, I saw him filling out his courses for junior year and he’s decided to take a third year! Elizabeth transformed a kid who hated Latin into one who’s opting to take more. I think that says it all.

Best Latin Tutor

She is a knowledgeable teacher with decades of Latin teaching experience. And she is also very familiar with the NLE exam syllabus and rules. My child likes her class very much.

Amazing

Elizabeth tutor my hard of hearing daughter in Latin. Just by my daughter's first session I realized Elizabeth cared about her students and wanted my daughter to succeed. Most importantly my daughter enjoy working with her and has learned more in her tutoring session than she's learned with her actual teacher.

Excellent!

My daughter loved how Elizabeth not only helped her with the transformation but helped her with the sentence structures also. Elizabeth makes learning Latin easy.
