Hong was great. He easily engaged my son, and our session went very well. Hong knew what my son was thinking and was able to ask him the right questions to bring him along in the conseptual process of answering questions. Hong was extremely knowledgeable.

Andrea, thank you for your kind words. He is such a bright young man catching all the ideas so quickly. Armed with right concepts and mental training to visualize physics processes, he will be able to draw free body diagram easily and setup the right equations naturally.

Hong had a great understanding of AP Physics. He helped my daughter in reviewing for a test and answered all her questions.

Mr. Hong is a great tutor technically, but he also has a wonderful demeanor that makes the student feel at ease working with him, maximizing the benefits.

Thank you very much. I learned a lot just by walking into your house. A great pleasure and one of the reason I love tutoring.

This is the second time we have requested Mr. Hong H. to tutor my son. We asked him back because we were very pleased with him. Not only does he have the requisite expertise in his subject area, he is also a kind and patient teacher. He understands his student's needs and devises an appropriate lesson plan. My son is very comfortable with him. Most of all, we are impressed by his passion for what he does. He not only teaches the basic material, but also provides excellent examples which extend and further clarify the material. He proudly told us he is a full time tutor. In today's world, not many people can do that.

We are happy to give him five stars!

Thank you very much. Although I tutor college graduate level math, It's still very rare to see a high school junior taking advanced math class such as Ordinary Differential Equation. Very impressive kid. Pleasure is mine!

Hong helped me with improving my understanding of physics and get back on solid ground. He explained the concepts well and helped me improve my approach to solving problems in this class.

Thank you. In physics, clear understanding of concepts and visualization of physics process is the most important part. Pay attention to disciplined approach in construction of free-body diagram so that one can set up the right equations naturally.

Extremely satisfied with the physics tutoring.

Hong's teaching focuses on understanding fundamental theories, problem solving, building confidence and achieving results.

Thank you. Not surprised to hear that your daughter starting to tutor her classmates on physics. Proud of her.

Best math tutor we ever found! Hong is sharp and spotted the problem right away. He relates extremely well to the kid and has magic to teach stuff in a fun way (They chatted about “beautiful” math history). Within 3 days (long sessions), my kid’s CTY Honor Algebra 2 score shot up from 60% in a sample test to PERFECT 100% in an actual test! Weeks later he passed the school district placement test with flying colors (score 98/100) and got accepted into an advanced math class. Can’t say enough about him.

Glad to hear the good news. Happy to be able to help kid achieve his goal. Math can be fun and there IS a better way to learn.

Hong provided a great lesson. He is very patient and knowledgeable. He was able to quickly assess my son's current level and move forward from there. We look forward to seeing him again.

Hong did a very nice job working with our beginning geometry student. Hong is making exercises for them to do together as well as taking information from is currently being studied in class. Thanks Hong!

Approved subjects are in **bold**.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

SAT/ACT math is difficult because of the breadth of topics that it covers, not the depth. Mistakes often happen when students are not sure about the content of that particular question. It’s wrong to treat SAT as a trick test and try to game it by spending time to learn empty “techniques” commonly found on SAT-prep books.

Instead, my tutoring is focused on the content. Solidify your knowledge base first! Drawing from years of experience, I know exactly which topics are likely problematic and where the points are deducted. I provide review and exercises to strengthen students in those areas. As a result my students will go into the test with full confidence. Only by this way of preparation, they will remain calm throughout and won’t panic even after encountering 1 or 2 tough questions (that is when one starts to fall into trap and make careless mistakes). Prepare in the right way. Stay calm and carry on.

Algebra 1 deals with basic mathematical operations, factorization, solving linear equation and graphing simple functions, which lays foundation to algebra 2 and precalculus. Struggling students usually lack the essential skills and proper technique to solve problems with speed and accuracy. Drawing from many years' experience, my teaching will concentrate in working on exercises together, clear the confusion, establish solid rules to iron out mistakes and instill confidence in accuracy then speed.

Building upon algebra, geometry, and calculus is the gateway to higher math and college physics. Struggling students usually fall into two categories: 1) weak foundation of algebra/geometry 2) simply overwhelmed by more complicated functions, new concepts in series/limits or the sheer number of differential and integral identities (all taught in a very fast pace).

My method: 1) Provide review of precalculus constantly. 2) Teach through visual methods, emphasizing construction and interpretation of graphs, so that students will have clear understanding of abstract concepts. 3)Together practice key differential/integral identities to improve speed and accuracy.

I coached my own son reaching top 5 rank nationally and qualified to represent USA in 2014 World Youth Chess Championship at South Africa.

My M.S. degree from Univ of Notre Dame is in Quantum Mechanics, which is a subject that requires solving ordinary or partial differential equations routinely. I have also been a teaching assistant in graduate school for 6 years.

Geometry requires different skill set. It's common that kids used to be good at algebra suddenly have difficulty here. Geometry demands spatial recognition and applying established rules (postulate/theorem) in deductive reasoning PLUS writing down your proof in clear logic order.

I first make sure students have a clear grasp on all the facts/rules established, then guide them to organize/write down thought process in a logical way. Finally I will teach them how to pick up the hidden clue that stronger players usually spot out intuitively. In geometry, the right intuition is the key.

My graduate degree at University of Notre Dame was on Quantum Mechanics, which requires solving differential equations routinely. In computer language, all differential equations are solved in matrix form, which is the subject of linear algebra. My research there was focused on implementation of new algorithm in C++ ( matrix and linear algebra).
