Hi! My name is Merric, and I'm a rising sophomore at Princeton University majoring in Operations Research & Financial Engineering. I am also interested in minoring in Computer Science and Philosophy. I've completed advanced coursework, including Advanced Physics (Mechanics), Data Structures & Algorithms, Multivariable Calculus, and Linear Algebra at Princeton, and I'm confident in my ability to tutor students in Algebra I, Algebra II, Calculus I, Calculus II, and Linear Algebra. I also specialize in SAT Math preparation, having scored a 1550 (750 EBRW and 800 Math on my first and only attempt).
In addition to academic tutoring, I have years of experience teaching chess to students of all ages and levels. I've taught at the Delbarton Summer Chess Clinic and led instruction through my nonprofit organization, UKnightedChess, which brings free chess education to schools and libraries. I also offer one-on-one private chess lessons, having taught kids aged 7-15.
My teaching approach is always student-centered. I adapt my lessons to each student's learning style and set attainable and meaningful goals to pursue. I've worked with middle and high school students in group settings and individualized instruction, and I strive to foster a supportive and motivating environment. Whether you're looking to sharpen your math skills, improve your SAT score, or elevate your chess game, I'm here to help you succeed.

Highly Recommend

Merric was incredibly patient and engaging with my kindergartener during their first chess session. He explained the game in a way that was easy to understand and kept my son focused the entire time—no small feat with a 6-year-old! We’re looking forward to making this a regular class. I’ve already suggested him to several friends!

Great SAT Math Tutor!

I've had an incredibly positive experience with my tutor. He's extremely patient and always takes the time to kindly explain anything I don't understand, which makes a huge difference in my learning. He’s also extremely supportive and encouraging of my goals, helping me stay motivated. What I appreciate most is the non-judgemental and welcoming environment he creates—I'm never hesitant to ask questions, and that’s made learning feel much more insightful and empowering. Highly recommend!

Great chess tutor

My son just started chess classes with Merric and is learning a lot while having fun. Merric is very patient, positive, and thoughtful about his lesson plan. Even more importantly, he is able to clearly explain things so that even a young child can understand. Highly recommend!

Efficient and Patient Tutor

Merric helped my son review concepts in Algebra that he struggled with during the school year. Before our first session, we exchanged detailed messages with regards to what we hope to accomplish. The first session was truly helpful and look forward to the next one.
