About Me
I’m Dr. JY, a physicist, electrical engineer, and experienced Princeton Ph.D. tutor with U.S. patents and a lifelong love of teaching.

I hold both Ph.D. and M.S.E.E. in Electrical Engineering from Princeton University with minor in Physics. My B.S. is in Theoretical Physics, and I’ve had the unique privilege of studying under six Nobel laureates.

I taught as a university teaching assistant at Princeton and Caltech, and have tutored in physics and mathematics since 2003, before online learning became popular. Teaching is my passion.

Teaching Philosophy
As a physics and math tutor and instructor online, my teaching style is results-driven, encouraging, and individually tailored to each student’s goals and background. I emphasize both a solid grasp of core concepts and the problem-solving techniques needed for top exam performance.

Whenever possible, I guide students through scientific exploration and discovery, mirroring how a professional physicist approaches challenges. This process not only improves understanding and confidence but also helps students develop curiosity, analytical thinking, and learning skills.

My ultimate goal is to make physics and mathematics clear, rewarding and inspiring so that each student leaves our sessions more capable and confident than when they arrived.

Subjects
I offer comprehensive tutoring in physics and mathematics, from middle school, high school to college level, including:
•Physics: AP Physics 1/2/C, SAT Subject Physics, GRE Physics, MCAT Physics
•Mathematics: Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, AP Calculus AB/BC, SAT Math, ACT Math, SAT Subject Math
Whether you’re preparing for the AP, SAT, MCAT or GRE exams, or simply want to strengthen your foundational understanding, I’ll create a personalized learning plan designed to help you excel. I teach one-on-one sessions, small groups, and can adapt effectively to larger classroom settings.

Dr. Jay is hands down the most passionate teacher we have ever met!

Dr. Jay is hands down the most passionate teacher we have ever met. My son is already a high achiever in a very competitive school. He wanted to use his winter break to dive deeper into Physics; that being said, we were incredibly impressed by Dr. Jay’s session! Having tutored kids in the past, I can see how much he truly cares for his students. He has the ability to effectively guide students along a meticulously planned out schedule, allowing anyone to reach their full potential. According to my son, Dr. Jay's knowledge in Physics is so vast and deep that he can instantly identify any student's weak points, ensuring thorough memorization and mastery in those areas. If you're looking for a physics tutor (especially in preparation for a physics competition), you definitely will not have to look for one anymore. If you reach out to Dr. Jay, he will give you the training you need. He is a true scholar and teacher. We cannot thank him enough!

Great teacher,very patient !

My son is in 9th grade, and he has been having some difficulties with math. Jay has given him a lot of help. After trying one lesson, we decided that Jay would become his long-term math tutor. Bernie really likes him and even asked to add more lessons because Jay has helped improve his math grades. Before this, we had trial lessons with three other math tutors, but unfortunately none of them worked out well. I am so happy that Bernie finally met such a great teacher like Jay. Now I no longer have to worry so much about his math performance. Thank you, Jay.

knowledgeable, patient, and kind tutor. Highly recommend!!

Jay is the best math tutor I have ever worked with. When I first started, I didn’t even know where my weak points were, but Jay helped me identify my gaps in understanding and tackle them head-on. He is incredibly patient and kind, taking the time to explain concepts in multiple ways until something clicked. Throughout the entire process, he guided and motivated me, building my confidence in my own abilities. Thanks to his help, I was able to pass my calculus class, and my professor was highly impressed with my grade improvement. I highly recommend Jay to anyone struggling with math!

great teacher !

Very patient, rather than do the problems for you and ask if you understands you are do questions based on what you know and coached on the way to completion.

Inspiring and supportive tutor

Jay has been an incredible find for my daughter. What I appreciate most is his genuine belief in her abilities and his commitment to helping her reach her goals. He is supportive, encouraging, and positive, while still staying focused and results-driven. He challenges her appropriately and keeps her motivated without overwhelming her. Because of his guidance, my daughter feels more confident and inspired to push herself. We are so grateful for the impact he’s had so far and would highly recommend him to anyone looking for a dedicated and inspiring tutor.

Knowledgeable and passionate!

Jay was very quick at identifying the areas where I needed the most improvement, and was especially able to help me understand the concept more thoroughly through mathematical proofs as well as real life examples.

Excellent Physics Tutor

Dr. Jay is an amazing physics tutor. I really like his approach to tutoring—he allows me to share everything I know about a topic and encourages me to attempt solving problems on my own first, which I find both effective and engaging.

Knowledgable Tutor with Great Teaching Style

Helped greatly with understanding various concepts related to physics and taught in a very interactive way, while encouraging student effort before explaining problems. Provided honest feedback and was very willing to explain in whatever way needed. Was also very flexible and understanding.
