I'm Vis! I graduated magna cum laude from Hofstra University with four majors (yes, four!) in journalism, linguistics, global studies, and geography. I'm Vis! I graduated magna cum laude from Hofstra University with four majors (yes, four!) in journalism, linguistics, global studies, and geography. In my years as a student, it hit me how significant of an impact the right instructors made not only on my grasp of the course material, but also on my passion for learning. Years later, I can still fondly recall the professors who've made a positive difference in my life and have applied the skills they've taught me as a writing tutor for high school and college students.

Each student has a unique learning style, and I prioritize tailoring my lesson plans according to what clicks best for you! Writing can be overwhelming, and former students have appreciated when I've chopped bigger text assignments into bite-size chunks, or converted difficult reading passages into fun, visual formats for easier comprehension! As a recent graduate, I'm also in tune with modern schooling methods in a way that tenured, legacy teachers may not be, which my students have found incredibly helpful! The way I see it, every student has the potential to be a stellar writer and reader; it's just a matter of lending my tools, time, and trust—my three Ts of tutoring—to help you find your spark!

As for my qualifications, I currently work as a journalist and have written for dozens of publications. I also have experience writing and editing several other kinds of text, from analytical and persuasive essays to fictional short stories, poetry, and community spotlight stories. I've received a number of awards and accolades for my work; most recently, I was awarded first place in coronavirus-related coverage by the Press Club of Long Island. I've also finished a certificate program in copyediting from the University of California, San Diego, and am looking to obtain a formal teaching certification from an accredited institution in the near future.

Please feel free to reach out with any additional questions or to schedule an initial lesson, and I look forward to working with you!
