From Understanding Japanese to Actually USING It!

Understanding grammar and vocabulary is one thing; using them naturally in conversation is another! I’ll help you put what you learn into practice through guided conversation, repetition, and enjoyable activities. I believe learning should be both effective and fun, so you can stay motivated and build confidence. I’ll also provide manageable homework, such as Japanese diary writing, short essays, and kanji practice. Even though the JLPT doesn’t include a speaking test, improving your communication skills can deepen your understanding and boost your overall proficiency.

I have over 10 years of experience teaching Japanese to learners of all levels, from complete beginners (JLPT N5) to advanced students (JLPT N1). I also offer practical Japanese lessons for travelers. With a PhD in Art, I take a creative and hands-on approach to teaching, incorporating a variety of visual materials, interactive activities, and practical exercises to make learning engaging and effective. I also love exploring Japanese art, music, and culture in greater depth with my students. As I visit Japan at least once a year, I can share fresh insights into contemporary Japanese culture, everyday life, and the latest trends, helping you connect what you learn in class with real-world experiences. Excellent language tutor!

Yukari-sensei continues to help me advance my Japanese greatly! She's a very patient teacher, and because of her teaching style, the results have been dramatic! Lessons involve writing, working from a variety of teaching material, and some conversation. It's a lot, but thanks to some excellent, detailed explanations and thorough teaching style, I've become capable of passing JLPT N5 and N4 on the first attempts, and currently am on track to pass the next level as well. I highly recommend lessons from Yukari-sensei if you're interested in making progress with the Japanese language!

I had a great first lesson with 先生Yukari! I was nervous but there was no need! She is very knowledgeable, kind and patient. I really like that the hour session was set up to maximize learning efficiently, and I walked away feeling very excited to continue my studies. She had a personalized lesson plan set up, walked me through the goals of the class and the next, and assigned homework to help reinforce what I’m learning. I’ve been self studying for two years, but don’t feel as confident in my listening or speaking.
