Hi there! I'm Suzanne Prather, and it's nice to meet you. I have had an interesting school life that is ever expanding into new areas, and I would love to help you in any of the many areas in which I have experience. First, a little about me. I have a degree in vocal music performance and piano from M.U. in Columbia. I also have a journalism degree from M.U. Then, I decided, "what the heck, I'll go to law school," and got my law degree at M.U. as well. I practiced law in MO and KS before deciding to go back to school one more time to get my Master's of Counseling Psychology. Basically, I love to learn, and I love to teach others to also love learning. I am a lot of fun and use creative approaches to make learning interesting...you will certainly NOT be bored! I believe in motivational teaching and a one-on-one approach to getting to know each other to build trust between you (the student) and myself (the tutor). This is necessary before any progress can be made. I also encourage questions, no matter how many. Questioning is the only way to learn!I've certainly asked many, many questions of my own in my schooling. I'll help all I can, and we will have a good time along the way. All I ask in return is that you apply yourself 100 percent. I have tutored before in Minnesota, and my students all agreed I made subjects much more fun and interesting to them. If you think you can give 100 percent, and having a fun, upbeat tutor sounds appealing to you, then we would be an outstanding match! I would love the opportunity to work with you soon! Sincerely, Suzanne Prather |

Suzanne's Experience:
general music
|
I was a music major at the University of Missouri-Columbia. My emphasis area is vocal music performance. I am also proficient in piano. I have taught music lessons (vocal and piano) for many years now. Currently, I still play the piano for fun and sing with the Kansas City Symphony.

law
|
I have a law degree (Juris Doctorate) from the University of Missouri. I practiced different types of laws throughout the years. I also have worked for state representatives and judges as a law clerk, so I have experienced many sides of the law. I love to make what seems so difficult easier for my students. It's not just about reading law books, it's about working with someone and learning with someone.

religion
|
I have taken courses on different religions both in undergraduate and law school. Personally, I find different religious theories and practices very interesting. I have taught classes in my respective religion and have also led Bible studies. I feel I have a firm grasp of religion, including both historic and present day religious practices.

sight singing
|
As a musician, to be "traditionally taught" one must be able both to read music and associate notes in ones head, even before hearing them played. This is the essence of sight singing....so as it is usually called, "sight reading." This is very different from singing by memory, as you MUST be able to read music to sight read/sing. I have been studying music, in the areas of voice and piano, since the age of 6. My strongest area has always been sight reading/singing. I can sing from reading the notes on the page without ever hearing them played beforehand. This comes from years of training. I also majored in vocal music performance in college, so I have many collegiate years of training in voice, piano, music theory, music history and other classical training methodologies. I sing with the symphony right now, and you must pass an extensive sight reading test before being accepted into a major symphony of any sort. This is not a natural talent, one must learn it just as you learn many other skills like long division. I feel I am very qualified to teach someone how to learn how to sight read/sing.

voice (music)
|
I was a vocal music performance major at The University of Missouri. I went there on a full ride singing scholarship. I have taught vocal music lessons for many years now. Currently, I sing with the Kansas City Symphony. I love to share my fondness for vocal music with those who want to improve their own singing voices. I make voice lessons fun...promise.
