Remove the infant's diaper. Use the wipes provided in the urine collection kit. For females, always clean from front to back. Clean one side, then the other, then lastly, directly over the meatus. Throw away the used towelettes and allow the area to air dry. Pinch the center of the white paper backing on the urine bag enough to make a crease. Peel off the paper sticker to expose the adhesive around the opening of the bag. Place the bottom (creased) part of the adhesive area on the perineum. The excess bag should be pointing down towards the feet. Apply the bag by firmly pressing the adhesive from bottom to top, to the skin on the labia. Tuck the excess bag downward and reapply the diaper, making sure the diaper is not pulling on the bag. Once the infant has urinated in the bag, slowly peel off the bag anteriorly to posteriorly to avoid spilling the urine. Take extra caution if the infant has had a BM so as to not contaminate the urine sample. Empty the urine into the collection device per your hospital policy. Label the sample and send it to the laboratory.
