This is a Math question and not a SOLIDWORKS question. The discriminant is the part of the quadratic equation solution that is b2 - 4ac. The discriminant is therefore (23)2 - 4(10)(-42) = 47. This means that there are two real solutions since the discriminant is greater than 0. If the discriminant was less than zero, then there would be two imaginary solutions. If equal to zero, then if would mean only one real solution.
