Is it true that the words for king and and bread are the same?

I don't know much about Hebrew to be honest, except that it is a Semitic language and I don't know much about that family. But I have some background in languages, mainly Japanese, so I know how insanely different other languages can be, but please pardon my ignorance if I am misunderstanding, this was just something I read recently from some people having a discussion about Biblical Hebrew compared with modern Hebrew. But are they? Because I have an extremely great interest in Eastern Orthodox Christianity and it would really be quite fascinating if they were.

Bread is Lechem (לחם), and king is Melech (מלך). Notice that in the Hebrew, the "ch" letter in the two words is not the same.

No. The words for bread and king are not the same. They are both ancient words that are used in both Biblical Hebrew as well as Modern Hebrew.

However, they do use the same letters, so i could see how someone might think that they are the same.

Bread- LeCHeM

King- MeLech

The M, L, and Ch are the same in both words, however, they are in a different order in each word.

Do not let the vowel'"e" confuse you.

There are no set vowels among the Hebrew letters. The "e" vowel we use in both words, would appear underneath the M and the L to tell us to pronounce the letters- LEH and MEH.
