I hope this is posted in the right sub, and doesn’t violate your rules or anything.
Just now I came across a bit of Hebrew in Tony Kushner’s play *Angels in America: Milenium Approaches*. I searched far and wide online and haven’t been able to find a line for line translation.
Here’s the scene in question. Emily is a nurse attending to Prior, a gay man dying of AIDS:
> EMILY: There’s really nothing to worry about. I think that ***shochen bamromim hamtzeh menucho nechono al kanfey haschino.***
> PRIOR: What?
> EMILY: Everything’s fine. ***Bemaalos k’doshim ut’horim kezohar horokeea mazhirim...***
> PRIOR: Oh I don’t understand what you’re...
> EMILY: ***Es nishmas Prior sheholoch leolomoh, baavur shenodvoo z’dokoh b’ad hazkoras nishmosoh.***
From what I can find online it’s saying something about Prior’s soul departing the earth? It’s really frustrating because it doesn’t provide a translation of it anywhere, and Google Translate doesn’t do well with what I’ve just written out. It thinks it’s Italian.
There’s another scene in the play that might be Hebrew also. Maybe even Yiddish:
> PRIOR 1 (low chant):
>Adonai, Adonai,
>Olam ha-yichud
>Zefirot, Zazahot,
>Ha-adam, ha-gadol
>Daughter of Light...
The passage is obviously spiritual in nature—it introduces an angel in the world of the play. I am not remotely well-versed in Hebrew scripture, but I think Zefirot is referring to Kabbalah ([the sefirot](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sefirot)) and Ha-Adam is a reference to the biblical Adam? Adonai I know is a name for God, so it would make sense I think.
