Volleyball basics:
-the goal of the game is to not let the volleyball hit the ground on your side of the court
-a team is only allowed to touch the ball 3 times before having to send the ball back over the net to the other team
-indoor volleyball typically has 6 players on each team, on the court, at a time
-there are 6 positions on a court
-the players can be described as back row or front row players
-front row players consist of: the outside hitter, middle blocker, and either a right side hitter or setter
-back row players consist of: the libero, the defensive specialist or setter, and backrow hitter
-serving the volleyball over the net (or an attempt to do so during a game) will start the game
-the three main components to playing volleyball are: bumping, setting, and hitting the volleyball
bumping - is using both arms or one arm to keep the ball in the air
setting - is using two hands or one arm to put the volleyball in position for someone to hit it
hitting - hitting the ball in a targeted direction
a fourth component is serving the ball- when one team sends the volleyball over the net to the other team to start a game
Proper stance to bump a volleyball with the forearms is to bend the knees, lean forward slightly, and allow the ball to hit the forearms. Fingers should NOT be laced together, but rather left hand over the right hand or vice versa with palms up and thumbs together side by side.
