What is this ASL sign?

Question

A friend who was nonverbal at the time signed this to me; his right hand was curved palm up at his stomach (I tried finding the handshapes and couldn’t) and his left hand was in what I think was a FlatO shape; he moved his left hand above his right up and down twice near his throat/mouth. I have no idea if it’s a variant of hungry, but I searched more beginning signs to see if that was it and have had no luck.

It sounds like a natural sign for “eat.” Did he open his mouth when he signed it?

It could be a sign for "soup" or a classifer showing the movement of dipping a bread in a bowl and nibbling on the bread.

It may be the sign for self esteem. As in he felt his self esteem was deflated.
