Pulling right index finger under the nose?

I am working at the receptionist desk today at the nursing home. I was concentrating and looking at a paper and a deaf visitor, when I looked up, made a sign where he drew his right index finger horizontally under his nose. I tried googling but couldn’t find anything that jumped out at me as being what I saw. I know it’s vague but if anyone has any ideas I would appreciate it!

Possible answers to this could be the sign for "hearing" if the sign was concluded by a circular motion by the mouth or the signs "brush teeth" or possibly rude all depends on the context
