Two friends share £280 in the ratio 3:4. Find out how much each friend recieves

Kern, this is fairly simple, actually.

 

We know that if one gets 3 parts and one gets 4 parts, together they get 7 parts.  What is 1/7 of £280? £40.

 

Now, one friend gets 3/7, which is £120, and the other gets 4/7, which is £160.
