Can I take my first test in another state?

It’s hard to find exact info online. I’m taking classes in Florida for cosmetology. I’m making sure to take enough hours to transfer to Arkansas. Do I have to take my boards in Florida and then retake them to get my reciprocity license in Arkansas or can I graduate school then move to Arkansas and take my boards straight in Arkansas?

As long as the requirement of hours is met and the institution you attended is recognized by your state you can choose to take your tests and get them out of the way then transfer your license. However, there is a wait when you transfer over even if all requirements are met. These waits depend on how long it takes one state to send the other state the proper paperwork such as information on your school, courses, testing, etc. It would be much faster for you to simply transfer to a school in the state you desire to move to then finish out there and get your license as normal.
