ASL translation help?

I am currently an ASL tutor on Wyzant but have been an ASL interpreter for many years. It sounds like you are having trouble comprehending the language receptively. Just like learning any language you have to start small and simple. First grasping signs on a lexical level and working up from there. What is your current course level? You may need a tutor.
