Hi, Brenda.
Ok, so Bob at 1/3 and Carla ate 1/4
We need to add them to see how much they ate altogether.
Get a common denominator:
1/3x(4/4) + 1/4(3/3) = (4 + 3)/12 = 7/12
So, there is 5/12 of the pizza left and it weighs 5.9 pounds.
5/12 x W = 5.9 (where W is the intial weight of the pizza)
Let's convert 5.9 to a fraction....5 9/10 = 59/10
(5/12)W = 59/10
50W = 708
W = 708/50 = 354/25
W = 14.16 pounds
