C = pi*diameter

 

22 = pi * diameter

 

 22 = 22/7 * diameter <--- pi is approximately 22/7

 

1 = 1/7 * diameter <--- divides both sides by 22

 

diameter = 7

 

radius = 7/2

 

Volume = pi * radius^2 * height

 

           = 22/7 * 7/2 * 7/2 * 16

 

           = 22/1 * 1/2 * 7/2 * 16/1 <---- 7 cancels

 

           = 11*7/2 * 16/1 <---- 22 cancels 2 by factor of 11

 

          = 11 * 7 * 8 <---- 16 cancels 2 by factor of 8

 

           = 11 * 56

 

          = (10 + 1)*56

 

           = 10*56 + 1*56

 

           = 560 + 56

 

           = 560 + 40 + 16

 

           = 600 + 16

 

          = 616
