Area is the amount of space something takes up, in 2 dimensions. Typically a length times a width. It has units of (length) squared.
Think of an index card. If it has a width of 3 inches and a length of 5 inches, and I mark off every inch across, and every inch down - and connect with lines going across and going down (like making big graph paper on this little piece of paper), I create a grid of one inch squares. There are five squares going across the bottom row. Five squares going across the middle row. 5 squares going across the top row. !5 squares in all covering this entire 3 by 5 inch index card. The card is perfectly covered by 15 squares inches. Area is length times width = (5 inches) (3 inches) = 15 squares inches. Area is a two-dimensional measure of the space it takes up.
Area of a Rectangle = Base × Height.
Area of a Square = Base × Height.
Area of a Square = s2
Area of Triangle = ½(Base × Height)
Area of Parallelogram = Base × Height.
Area of Trapezoid = ½(Base1 + Base2) × Height.
Area of Circle = π(radius)2 = πr2
Area of a Square = Base × Height.
Area of a Square = s2

Area of Circle = π(radius)2 = πr2
