each of the terms is a power with base = -9
the exponents from left to right are 7, 2, and 8
when you multiply powers with the same base, you can combine them into a single power by adding the exponents.
in general it looks like this: mA x mB = mA+B
(-9)^7 x (-9)^2 x (-9)^8 = (-9)7+2+8 = (-9)17
