I love math, and I love to teach it.
Hello, Fatima,
Just make a table, and the math will look easier. Note: Ratio: Salmon/trout Ratio is a comparison fraction.
Let me make up a similar problem to yours using a table:
1) Label key words and numbers in story problem.
Bella went on a two-day fishing trip. On the first day, she caught 15 salmon and 6 trout. On the second day, she caught 4 salmon and 2 trout.
Question: On which day of the fishing trip did Bella catch a higher ratio salmon to trout?
2) Make a table:
Days of Week Number of Salmon Number of Trout Ratio: S/t
Day 1 15 6 15/6=5/2
Day 2 2 4 2/4= 1/2
Answer to my example: Day 1 had a higher ratio of Salmon to trout. 5 salmon for every 2 trout.
Note: I simplified the ratios above because ratios are a type of fraction. Look at the denominators; they are the same, so it is easier to see that the top one has more salmon per 2 trout than the bottom one.
You can do your problem in the same way. Susan C.
