If the lap is one-third of a mile, then three laps would make a single mile:
3 * 1/3 = 1
Or, 3 ÷ 3 = 1
(As you can see, multiplying fractions just like dividing)
We can use the same idea to figure out how many laps make two miles:
___ * 1/3 = 2
Or, ___ ÷ 3 = 2
Once you solve that, you then have 1/3 of a mile left over. And a lap around the track is how long again? Add that in, and you have your final answer.
