There are 16 ounces in a pound. Assuming the edible yield is the same for the single portion and the pound, that gives you 16 x 75% or 12 ounces of edible yield per pound. A single serving is 5 ounces with an edible yield of 75%, or 5 x 75% = 3.75 ounces. For each 12 ounces, you get 12/3.75 or 3.2 servings. Since there are 500 people, you need to multiply the amount you order to go from 3.2 servings to 500. 3.2 times what number gives you 500? or in other words, 3.2x = 500? x = 500/3.2 or 156.25. That is just one way to solve this problem.
