This question is a two step problem. First, you need to figure out what the sales tax is. Second, you will need to figure out how much the sweater will cost total.
1) Figuring out the sales tax. In order to figure out sales tax, we multiple the sales tax by the price of the item (Price of item X Sales tax).
First, you need to change your percentage into a decimal. We do that, by moving our decimal two spaces to the left. (7.0 becomes .07).
Now you simply need to solve 39.50 x .07.
Once you have your answer to the first part of the question, you can move onto part 2.
2) Part two is rather simple. To figure out the total cost of the item you simply add. What is the price of the item + how much is sales tax (your answer from #1)
39.50 + Total Sales Tax Price (answer from #1).
This will give you the answer to your question. Good luck!
