I was given an assignment where I had to write a paper on the book I read called Empathy. My English professor gave the class questions where we had to "Use problem-solving to make progress with your essay". One of the questions is describe the nature of the problem. What obstacles are involved? What are the unknowns? I assume this is pertaining to the difficulties I have with writing the essay but I am not sure what the questions mean.

I have never read the book.  

 

1)  I would assume there was a major problem in the book,

     something is causing issues because of its existence

 

2)  What obstacles are involved?  What made this a problem?

 

     What were the issues involved?  What made this an issue

     

     that the characters had to deal with?

 

3)  What are the unknowns?  What personal opinions can you 

 

     state concerning what is taking place in the book?

 

It appears to me that your professor was trying to use these questions to:

 

    a) give you some thoughts as to what your paper is going to be 

        written about

 

    b)  basically helping you to outline your paper and then you would need

         to fill in and make it a quality paper
