a solution? I want to know, this is an mayor grade (with other equetions tht I also gonna post if I'm not sure ^^)

I don't think that this problem has a solution.

 

3 + 3x = 2 + 3x

Watch what happens when we try to isolate the variable by subtracting 3x from both sides:

3 + 3x - 3x = 2 + 3x - 3x

3 = 2

 

We get a non-solution.

Kevan is buying food for a party. He buys a package of soda for $4.89 and buys bags of chips for $1.25 each. If he can only spend $20, how many bags of chips can he buy?

 

Without doing division, you can subtract 4.89 from $20 to find out how much he has left for the purchase of bags of chips.

Then subtract $1.25 from this "Residue" repeatedly, tallying each subtraction that does not produce a negative value.

That will give you the max. # of bags chips that can be purchased with the available funds. (The Residue number goes down by 1.25 at each step.)

 

Alternatively, divide (20-4.89) by 1.25 and discard the remainder--that's how many bags can be bought.
