Carbohydrates include sugar and starch, fibers and have four calories in each gram of carbohydrate molecule. Maltose, a carbohydrate requires maltase enzyme for its breakdown whereas lactose requires lactase. They serve as energy source during intense exercise
Lipids are essentially fat molecules that can be made of saturated or unsaturated fatty acids. Each gram of lipid molecule has nine calories. Therefore, they are calorie rich. Lipids require lipase for breakdown. They serve as energy source during low intensity exercise.
Both carbohydrates and lipids can be classified as simple and complex forms. Both can be converted to each other depending on the physiological demand of the body, the process is known as metabolic inter-conversion.
Hope this helps.
