A nursery manager is buying fencing to enclose three sides of a rectangular garden. The length of the garden is 5x feet and the width is 4x feet. The area of the garden is 3125 square feet. How much fencing should he buy? Round your answer to the nearest foot.

the enclosed area is 4x(5x)=20x^2

then 20x^2=3125

and x^2=156.25

so x=12.5 ft.

 

the three sides of the rectangle can be 4x, 5x, 4x or 5x, 4x, 5x.

the nursery manager will need 13(12.5) or 14(12.5) feet of fencing

or 162.5 ft. or 175 ft.
