If I read this right, 2/3 x + 5/6 y = 5.
First, move the 2/3 x to the right side by subtracting 2/3 x from both sides.
2/3 x - 2/3 x + 5/6 y = 5 - 2/3 x
(2/3 x - 2/3 x cancel on left hand side)
5/6 y = 5 - 2/3 x
To get y by itself MULTIPLY BY THE FRACTION'S INVERSE (in this case 6/5)
6/5 * 5/6 y = 6/5 (5 - 2/3 x)
y = 6/5 ( 5 - 2/3 x)
(6/5 * 5/1 = 6) REMEMBER ALL WHOLE NUMBERS ARE CONVERTED TO FRACTIONS BY DIVIDING BY 1 (5 = 5/1; 6 = 6/1).
(6/5 * 2/3 = 4/5 (denominator 3 cancelled out of 2/3 and the 6 in 6/5 becomes 2 since 3 *2 = 6) - rule of multiplying fractions - simplifying.
y = 6 - (4/5) x
