Id tell him to put it on the scale!!!(with the it zeroed to te cup ofc)
one cup is 8fl oz and we are looking for 8oz of weight. For flour they wont be the same.
8oz cup measures volume(volume-space)
scale measures 8oz mass(mass-weight)
fluids are mostly measured in fluid ounces
dry stuff spices meats etc measured in weight
For flour weight is much more important than space as that may change anyway once you get it wet with other ingredients, but how much of it that is really going into the baked good is only constant by measuring weight
