It might help you to draw pictures when you have problems like this :) You need to set up an equation. We know the perimeter of something is the sum of all the sides. Lets say the width will be x. We know the length is twice the width so it will be 2x. So you set up an equation showing the sum of the sides equalling 54.
X+x+2x+2x=54
6x=54
x=9
So we know the width is 9 inches and the length is 18. Now we need to find the area (length times width)
9*18 = 162 square inches
