Move all the x terms to 1 side

 

1/2x + 1/2x -5/3 = 19/4

x = 19/4 + 5/3

Get a common demoninator

x = 57/12 + 20/12

x = 77/12

add (1/2)x to both sides

x-(5/3)=(19/4)

add (5/3) to both sides

x=(19/4)+(5/3)

x=(57/12)+(20/12)

x=77/12

x=6 5/12
