About Zach

Bio

I’m Zach, and I'm a math major and data science minor graduate who helps students rebuild confidence and clarity after years of disrupted learning or feeling disenfranchised. Many students today aren’t struggling because they’re "bad at math," but because school never showed them why things work in the ways that reached them. Especially in a post-Covid world, I see the need to rehabilitate the many skills our students have lost out on.

I graduated magna cum laude with a BA in Mathematics and a minor in Data Science, and I’ve also worked as a Calculus I TA, running recitations and daily office hours. I use that experience to make complex ideas logical and intuitive, not memorized. During this time, I realized how easy it is for students to get overwhelmed by material, especially if they don't have enough background or want to know the "whys" of everything.

My approach is conversational, patient, and deeply analytical. We’ll slow things down, examine the logic behind each step, and create an active learning process tailored to how you think. You’ll walk away not just knowing the "how," but the "why." I can deeply appreciate the need to pace yourself and break things down bit by bit. I'd love to hear about how you personally come to understand things and create an active process we both engage in, rather than me just regurgitating what I already know.

Whether you’re rebuilding after remote learning or aiming to master calculus, I’ll help you regain focus, confidence, and the reasoning skills that make math or computer science finally make sense.

Algebra 1

Algebra 1

I’ve taught Algebra 1 to middle and high school students, helping them rebuild confidence and clarity after disrupted learning. With a BA in Mathematics and experience as a Calculus 1 TA, I break concepts like linear equations, functions, and factoring into logical, step-by-step reasoning rather than memorized rules. My approach emphasizes patterns, connections, and metacognitive strategies so students don’t just pass tests, they understand how the math works.
Algebra 2

Algebra 2

I’ve tutored Algebra 2 to high school students, helping them rebuild confidence and clarity after disrupted learning.
Calculus

Calculus

I teach Calculus with a focus on conceptual understanding and logical structure, seeing why the rules of derivatives and integrals work, not just how to apply them. As a Calculus 1 TA, I guided students through limits, rates of change, and area problems by connecting each topic back to intuition and visualization. My sessions emphasize pattern definitions, recognition, reasoning, and metacognitive strategies that help students rebuild confidence and genuinely understand the material.
Precalculus

Precalculus

I help students master the logic and structure of Precalculus by connecting algebraic concepts to the deeper patterns of functions and trigonometry. With a BA in Mathematics, a minor in Data Science, and experience as a Calculus 1 TA, I know exactly where students get stuck as the material grows abstract. My approach rebuilds clarity and confidence through step-by-step reasoning so that advanced math finally makes intuitive sense to prepare them for calculus.
Python

Python

I teach Python as a language for thinking clearly and solving problems, not just typing code. With a BA in Mathematics and a minor in Data Science, I help students bridge math, logic, and programming, whether they’re analyzing data, automating tasks, or building small projects. My approach emphasizes reasoning and conceptual understanding so students learn how to think computationally, not just follow tutorials.
Real Analysis

Real Analysis

Out of a class of seven, I scored the highest in my first-semester real analysis course with an A grade. I regularly attended office hours and explained the proofs and concepts to my professor to make sure I understood them, which I viewed as a form of tutoring. I deeply read Understanding Analysis (2E) by Stephen Abbott through that semester and enjoy breaking these concepts down to facilitate understanding.

Flexible, Knowledgeable, and Dedicated Educator

Janey’s tutor has been absolutely wonderful. He is extremely knowledgeable, patient, and dedicated to his student’s success. He initially taught Janey Python, but when she began struggling in Pre-Calculus, I asked if he could help her. Without hesitation, he stepped in and provided clear, effective explanations that helped her understand the material and rebuild her confidence. I’m very grateful for his flexibility and commitment. He has also agreed to continue tutoring her in Pre-Calculus for the rest of the school year and resume Python lessons over the summer. Highly recommended!

Overall great experience

Zach was an amazing tutor he explained things to me as many times as I needed and in a specific way tailored to me that allowed me to understand the concepts. He also went over time with me and provided a whole Jupiter notebook explaining all the problems I needed for me to have. This was one of the most helpful python tutoring sessions I have had yet!
