Mathematics is not just about memorization, but understanding the material innately, rigorously, and conceptually. My students and I work through the knowledge base and thinking patterns that give students an edge up academically.

I help students develop long term study skills to handle academic content.

In particular, I can help them to gain the skills they need to decipher the text, improve test taking practices, and reinforce study habits and preparation. My background in mathematics helps me to tune into the concepts and skills they will need for the test, but my academic coaching will also help them to learn how to utilize organization and study skills to help them to catch up and get ahead..

My students work hard because they want to see gains and so I give them homework for the week to make our sessions even more effective.

Just recently, I was able to use these techniques to help an AP Statistics student make improvements to her studying in all her classes, and achieve a 100% on her presentation - for which she was deeply fearful.

This is what I do.

I help students who have fallen behind to catch up.

I help students make improvements on their tests.

I teach test prep strategies.

One of my students brought his ACT score up from 18 to 26. Another student achieved a B on his final despite receiving F and a D on his prior two tests. Student have gained confidence, boosted scores, improved study techniques, and dealt with core issues in their mathematical foundation.

I help students make advancements beyond their own curriculum. To do this, I work with the frame work of the best curriculum in Common Core, Singapore Math, AOPS, and MathCounts.

If my tutoring sounds like a good fit for you, let me know what I can do to help you out. I am available year round in person or online.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Best,
Ingrid

Statistics

Statistics

Students have come to me to improve their understanding in Statistics. We cover problems in depth, looking at the definitions of different terms, breaking down formulas, comparing similar but different concepts, including t-tests and z-tests, and make sure that concepts are clearly and deeply understood. I help students to organize their thoughts using graphic organizers to compare information, list out key numbers in word problems, and breaking down the elements of a hypothesis test. Students feel more comfortable with the material and are better prepared for projects and tests.

Elementary Education

Elementary Math,

Elementary Math

Elementary math is full of fun and games. We participate in activities that will help the student learn math, but have fun at the same time. There are many real life examples that involve math and the student can develop a hands on approach to mathematics that will lay their foundation for the later years. We also work through challenge questions to teach students perseverance and problem solving strategies. These methods are "Common Core" style so the students will be well prepared. All students are encouraged to participate in math competitions that are fun and rewarding.
Homeschool

Homeschool

I have homechooled not only my son but several other students. We have picked out curriculum, set personal action plans, and made adjustments as needed. As a result, my son was able to skip a grade. Under my homeschooling instruction, he has also been able to maintain a high caliber course load, including dual-enrollment in college courses. I have also been involved in a homeschooling network, and can help with the paperwork that needs to be filed each year. I can advise other parents on how to tailor their homeschool education to student needs and can provide guidance, resources, and tutoring.

Algebra 1,

Algebra 1

I have a degree in mathematics and teaching mathematics. I've been teaching and tutoring math for over 10 years. In particular I have taught Algebra 1 for six years. Through my tutoring sessions I work with students to gain confidence, expertise, and long term math skills.
Algebra 2,

Algebra 2

Algebra 2 is the most topic-packed course in High School. To make sense of it we improve our understanding in Algebra 1, bring in Geometry and Trigonometry concepts, and build off of parent functions. By getting the student caught up previewing the material before class time, I am able to help students make great gains so that students are back on track.
Geometry,

Geometry

I have taught Geometry for three years in the schools. I worked with many students one on one to tutor them in Geometry concepts. Some of the areas I focus on include: helping students to better understand the way that Algebra ties into Geometry, the visual concepts of Geometry and the definitions. My methods include helping students by asking them questions, showing them examples, outlining notes, providing additional practice problems, and encouraging them to do their best.
Prealgebra,

Prealgebra

I have prepared students for the necessary concepts in Algebra for many years. When they need extra support, I bridge the gap by reteaching PreAlgebra concepts, providing supplemental materials and making sure that they feel confident that they can proceed to the next level.
Precalculus,

Precalculus

I have been helping students improve in Pre-Calculus at both the college and high school level, regular and honors. We look at shortcuts, review foundational algebra, draw memory aids, and practice for success. There are many ways to help make sense of the confusion and set up success in future math courses, like Calculus.
SAT Math,

SAT Math

I have been trained in teaching SAT math with a national test prep company. I prepare students through test strategies and also reteach math principles.

ACT Math

For the ACT Math, there are 60 questions in 60 minutes. That's fast. First off we work on building up the student's knowledge bank. We find out what the student is weak in and I provide examples and practice problems for those areas. Secondly, we work on test strategies - in other words, how to beat the test like it is a game. Student work on time management, guessing and problem solving strategies, and simple things like what to take with you and what to eat before a test.

Learning Trigonometry is about finding a system that works and executing it. There is a method to the madness. We work on using a simple method to solve problems and bridge the gap back to that method even when problems change. That way there is less to memorize and more success!

Very helpful SSAT math prep

I have worked with Ingrid over the past 45 days to improve my math skills for the SSAT. Ingrid has been extremely helpful in explaining concepts to me that have previously been a source of frustration. She is an excellent tutor who is very patient and does a great job of explaining concepts and where I have made analytical errors. She has been very flexible in scheduling to fit my ever-changing schedule and I feel more confident in the concepts we have studied.

Perfect fit!

We contacted Ingrid to help our 17 year old with his Algebra 2. Our son is home schooled because he has anxiety issues, and we were worried we wouldn't be able to find a tutor he was comfortable with. To our amazement, within 10 minutes of meeting him, the two of them seemed like they were long lost friends. She is AMAZING, and her communication skills are unsurpassed. I couldn't recommend her higher! She truly is a perfect fit!

Great tutor!

Reviewed lot of questions on different topics in Geometry. She is very patient and knowledgeable. She would draw it on white board and explain very well. During the lesson she would ask questions to ensure student is understanding.

Recommended for Pre-calculus

Ingrid was very patient and explained all the formulas I needed for my logarithmic word problems. She broke down all the formulas and made it easy to understand. I highly recommend her!
