Hello, I'm Veronica! My current mission as a tutor is to instruct peers to become lifelong, independent learners of data science/coding, scientific writing, bioinformatics, biology, genetics, general chemistry, and organic chemistry.

I encourage open communication with students to understand their personal learning styles. I can make lesson plans and be as hands-on as necessary, or I can be a learning guide who can help lead the student to the solution on their own. Part of tutoring requires preparation to ensure that the hour of our time is used effectively. Please reach out, and let me know what you need help with and your goal for our tutoring session!

As a high school student, I tutored my peers in algebra, geometry, and algebra II for 2 years. I graduated as salutatorian of my class and earned AP credit for Bioscience I and II, Calculus I, and Freshman Composition I and II. In college, I graduated summa cum laude with a BS in Biology, a concentration in Neurobiology, and a minor in Psychology from UTSA. Here, I was a Tomás Rivera Center Tutor for over a year and was rewarded the highest honor, the UTSA Tutoring Services Order of the Pi Award.

I then completed my MS in Biology at the University of Oregon and focused on Neuroscience coursework. I was a teaching assistant for General Biology I and II for a year and a half and served as the primary lab instructor. Here, I also assisted with a Learning Biology program where I tutored students individually and in groups. Finally, I completed my MS in Biomedical Informatics at UTHealth Houston. Here, I used R/Python to complete a 'state of the science paper' based on the integration of scRNA-seq and spatial transcriptomic data in cancer research.
