Welcome! My name is Jeremy and I am an Atmospheric Data Scientist at a tech startup. I earned my Ph.D. in meteorology at the University at Albany. Before that, I received my Bachelor's from the University of Miami, with a triple major in Physics, Mathematics, and Meteorology and Summa Cum Laude in only 3 years. I have had the pleasure of teaching students of various ages in chess, math, and science, including preparation for Regents, SAT, ACT, and AP courses. Recently I instructed high school students who went on to attend universities like Princeton, MIT, etc. My specialty involves using instructive examples to help students understand complex concepts. Nothing makes me happier than seeing a student succeed - not only in their coursework, but also in their long-term skills to succeed in the real world.

Beyond my Ph.D. knowledge, I have worked as a University Teaching Assistant with 10+ years experience helping students. I love math and science and helping people understand complex topics. I've instructed students in advanced courses such as AP Calculus, AP Physics, AP Chemistry, Regents, and SAT/ACT, among others.

I also love teaching chess! I'm a USCF Chess Master with 10+ years experience teaching chess to children and adults. During my childhood I was ranked in the Top 75 Under-18 U.S. Chess Players and won the gold medal twice as the Illinois State High School Champion. I've won many national tournaments, including Opens in Chicago, Manhattan, Boulder, and New York, and I'm the 5-time Champion of the Capital Region District Chess League. For 3 years I was the chess coach for the Ponce de Leon Middle School - a Top 10 U.S. Magnet School - teaching children ages 8-13 years old, leading them to the U.S. SuperNationals. I'm also a private coach for students competing in the New York State Scholastic Championships. Chess is my passion and I love teaching chess to beginners and advanced players of all ages.

Thanks for taking the time reading my profile. I look forward to helping you achieve your goals!

Another great lesson

My son leaves every lesson full of enthusiasm and with lots to report. He especially enjoys game analysis and learning/refining about opening systems. His time with Jeremy is absolutely a highlight of his week.

middle game lesson

I told Jeremy that I’m having trouble with my middle game and we played a few games for practice. He showed me the Petrov Defense and variations. I left the lesson feeling that l have new moves in my arsenal

time well spent

Jeremy had planned well for the lesson. He pointed out some consistent errors I have been making. I look forward both to playing again with an opponent and to my next lesson with Jeremy

Fantastic Teacher

I just had my first lesson with Jeremy and 15 minutes in, I knew he was perfect for me. He is terrific at explaining concepts and clearly communicates the “why” behind the principles. He’s an excellent teacher for adults who want to learn or improve. I whole heartedly recommend!

Great teacher!

Jeremy was responsive and helpful for understanding the assignments as well as where I was going with it to help me understand where I made the mistake. He was informative in his approach as well as helpful in filling in my knowledge gaps. A great lesson and looking forward to asking him for help in the future.

Knowledgable and patient tutor.

Jeremy helped me through my introductory weather and atmosphere lab where we tracked hurricanes and filled out a corresponding excel sheet. It was well spent 1 hour session, and I have scheduled a session for my upcoming lab. I recommend Jeremy as a tutor!
